"Some people believe that death is a horrible thing. But the story of Prem and Panchali has a different thing to say. It reveals that death isn't the end but it is the new beginning. It is nothing but change of costume for the soul and the beginning of a new journey. Love is beyond the realm of life and death. Love pours such sanctity in you that one can clash with destiny and cross swords with god", said the narrator and the curtains fell. The screen displayed 'An Eternal Love Story' by Amit Khan.
Love is a universal feeling that everyone can identify with and indeed a complex emotion. The saga depicts pure obsession and passionate love of Panchali which makes her return to her lover Parimal, challenging the laws of nature. Silence all around. Tears on the stage were soon followed by tears in my next seat. Shaken by the events unfolding on the stage, she grabbed my hand and started sobbing. The play was over and I was trying my level best to soothe Aarohi. I could only be present for the last 10 minutes as I had bulk of work to finish off in my office.
Rohan: Calm down, love. I know you are angry but listen to me atleast once.
Aarohi: Its not done. I have been waiting for you since the beginning of the play but as usual you were late. Forget it, tell me what happened this time?
R: I know, I am so sorry. Please forgive me for one last time. Anyways, you know what!
A: What?
R: I am promoted to the post of senior manager. Now, I would be leading my team.
A: Woahh! That sounds great. Don't you think it definitely calls for a party.
A: Ideally I should be upset with you. Forget it, you won't change. Tell me, where are we going to celebrate.
We landed in our fav place to hang out and placed the order.
R: Tell me, how was the play? What was the story? By the end, I could only judge that it was an intense love story. Was that so, or something different?
A: Yes it was. So the basic plot was that Panchali was deeply in love with her writer husband Parimal Ghosh. It was a love marriage with a life full of love and happiness ahead of them. For Panchali, who lovingly calls Parimal as Prem, life begins and ends with Prem. Then an unbelievable tragic incident happens and Panchali dies. But you know what!
R: Yes, the story doesn't end there.
A: Correct. The most astonishing twist happens in Parimal's broken-hearted life when Panchali returns to this world from the back door, defying death.
R: But how did she return?
A: Thats an intelligent question.
We both laughed.
A: So what happens is that Kaira, a close friend of Panchali comes all the way from Delhi after her friend's demise to express condolences and meets with an accident. And Panchali's persistent desire to live life with her family led Kaira to take the wrong step. Her spirit got inside Kaira's body to fulfill her desires to live with her loved ones.
R: Strange! What a tortuous journey of love. Isn't it?
A: Listen, its not yet done. There is much more in the story. Another twist in the tale was waiting for the love birds. Few weeks passed by and Robin enters the story, who was the fiancee of Kaira. He flies to London in search of her beloved. Prem tries over and over to misguide Robin. But, one fine day Robin overhears their conversation and finally he comes to know about the truth. Now, all the plans were exposed and the cards were open.
R: Ohh, that's different. Finally, what happens in the end?
A: Robin arrives with the intention to confront them but he comes to know that Panchali's unfulfilled wishes and desires to spend magical moments with her son who hasn't experienced motherly warmth and to be with her loving husband persuaded her to do such extreme. Robin understands their actions and concludes that nobody was at fault. Panchali's spirit left the body and the story saw a reunion of the divine couple, Kaira and Robin. And in the end, Parimal chooses death to meet his soulmate in the heaven.
R: What I perceive from the entire plot is that wishes are unlimited and we humans are never satisfied with what we have. It is an endless thirst that we continue to strive for in our lives.
A: Also, I believe that love can make us do all sort of things- unbelievable things. We often underrate a person's importance in our lives. We fail to appreciate our closed ones and take them for granted. It is only after the death that the person's value is perceived. Love comes like a blessing from god. All we need to do is to treasure it.
R: Hmm... I am undestanding the indirect meaning of the last two lines.
Aarohi giggles.
R: Come on, I always pamper you. Time and again, I decently express your importance in my life.
A: Jokes apart, I think that love and death are uninvited guests. Love takes away our heart and death takes away heartbeats. It is an eternal truth that we have to leave this world one day. So...
R: So, we should enjoy life to the fullest and order some ice-cream.
A: Sure, why not!
Both of us get lost in each other's eyes and love immerses in the air.
