Fat Chance, a character-driven romantic comedy is based on a true story. It talks about the story of an obese dentist, Alisson, who struggles to find herself and define her worth. Being convinced about her image and struggling with being an obese, she decides to make an account on a dating site. She uses her friend’s image in order to attract people. Allison has always struggled with her weight, but she cannot find anything to help herself out. She feels detested by other people, and when she feels like she might be interested in a guy from her church group, she feels like she has no chance due to her image. Thus, she finally decides to find love in a virtual world, by using her roommate’s picture on her online dating profile. On the dating site she falls in love with Justin. Justin too falls in love with Allison. Both Allison and Justin had previously met at various social work projects. Soon, one of Justin’s friend reveals to him that he is being cheated as the girl whose picture is in the profile is not who she is in reality and he realises that her good friend Allison is the one who was talking to him. The truth tears him apart and breaks his friendship with Allison. However, things don’t go as she originally planned them and she learns a hard lesson about self-esteem and being themselves.
The movie ends on a good note. Justin understands his fault too and finally at the end resolves every issues he had with Allison. The movie gives a mirror view of the society in which we live. It attempts to boost strength and confidence to people who struggle to boost up their self-esteem.
The movie somewhat depicts the life of Aarohi and Rohan. Rohan and Arohi have had their share of ups and downs. Their journey has been different and unique in its own way. When seen through the eyes of Rohan, Aarohi is his world. She has grown from being an integral part of his life to being a significant part. When Rohan looks at Aarohi, he looks into her eyes, he looks beyond the façade of physical beauty. There is something deep, meaningful, and comforting that he finds in her eyes. That is love perhaps.
In their journey together, they both have seen each other in their best forms and have come to realise that beauty lies in comfort, it lies in loving oneself. For Rohan, it is the smile on her face that matters and not the shades of her make up; it is the person that matters not the dressing. He would fall for the personality and not the mere dust of style and glamour.
Being the man he is, he will look for a connection, a spark of sorts. That spark is not triggered by beauty. It is triggered by the connection of heart, mind and soul. His search has been for a companion, one for life so the physical attributes wouldn’t matter to him. His belief in love and fate is worth mentioning and respecting. When behind the screen, one may lie, but when there is a connection between hearts, truth flows and truth takes you far. Rohan is a man of integrity, compassion and honesty. He would love the person and the personality and not the physicality. The movie has proved to be impactful for Rohan. It has changed his perceptions not just about his ladylove but also towards others.
