The book 'The Notebook' involves Noah and Allie, the two main protagonists of the story. The scene starts with an eighty-year-old man reading poetry to a woman who suffers from Alzheimer’s and to the other patients in his hospital. The book then dates back to the time when Noah and Allie were passionately in love with each other. Unfortunately, their family failed to agree to their relationship because of class distinction. Noah was a boy from the working class and Allie was a daughter to rich parents. But love is a strong emotion. It never fades. Secretly, they kept communicating with each other through letters. Noah confessed his feelings for her in his last letter but never received any response. Soon after, he left his homeland as he had a call from the war.
Then he returned home purchasing a farmhouse. Allie came to know about his return through the advertisement of the farmhouse in the newspaper and visited him in spite of her being engaged to her fiancé. They spent quality time together and recalled the old romances. Noah tells Allie of his writing letters to her. Allie surprisingly explained that she had never received any kind of letters. However, she realised that her mom had kept those letters hidden away from her. Moreover, she could sense that she connected with Noah far more than Lon, her fiancé. She still had feelings for him which she couldn’t suppress anymore and they spend an erotic night together. However, Allie was torn between choosing Lon and Noah at the end. She had to make a decision for herself, for her own life. The book ends with an old man reading a novel to Allie who profoundly has an Alzheimer’s. Can we leave it to the readers now to understand who the man is?
Aarohi and Rohan believe love to bind them together. Despite having turbulence in their relationships, they never give up. They stay loving each other harder. Love requires patience. It needs a strong commitment to be with each other. No matter what happens, giving up is not the solution. Crossing ups and downs together should be the motto.
The book is a story of passion and attachment towards each other. It gives a strong message that having faith in your feelings is all that matters at the end. Finding a reason to stay despite having reasons to leave is all that counts. It requires connection through soul.
